The access requirements our bins and trucks need

Are you about to book a skip bin? Before you proceed, make sure you consider the vital delivery and access requirements to ensure a smooth and worry-free delivery!

While you may have the skip bins content already organised and ready to go, you need to make sure you can have your skip bin prepared to go, too.

And we don’t mean just booking it – you need to ensure you have the room and access planned and prepared for our drivers to arrive.

To ensure your property is ready for your skip bin delivery, keep reading below.

Access points for our truck

When booking our skip bins online or over the phone, the first thing you should do is ensure you have enough room for our trucks to get in and out of your property.

With many of our customers having narrow blocks with fences and gates, you’ll be surprised by the tiny space we have to navigate our trucks through.

Luckily, we usually make it through; however, it is always good to check if your area has enough room. For our trucks to fit in position and get through, we need between 2.8 and 3 metres of space in width.

Don’t have space for our truck to drive across? We suggest looking at different areas for your skip bin, like the grass strip in front of your home or your front yard. It’s easier for us to work with this space since it’s usually close to the open road.

Furthermore, if you have a low-lying front fence with not enough of a gap for our truck, we can work over the gate instead of going around the fence or opting to go through the back wall if accessible.

Ample room for our truck delivery

Although you have enough room for our trucks, do you have a safe amount of space for our trucks to make a delivery and pick-up?

When dropping off our skips bins and picking them up at the end of hire, we require a room of 5 metres in height. This extra space is needed as the truck arms need to fully extend so our skip bins can be moved on and off the truck.

This means there should be an allowance of 5m in height where you want your skip located as this will be where our trucks arms are extended.

Objects that may cause an obstacle includes low-hanging wires, low tree branches and roofing fixtures, so it is essential to consider your environment.

Clear space for the skip bin

So now that you have enough room for our truck and its equipment, it is time to ensure your required area is big enough for your bin. Luckily, if you have enough room for our trucks, you generally will have enough room for your selected skip.

However, it is always good to ensure you have the space for your desired bin with a range of skip bin sizes. We recommend looking on our website and checking our Bin Sizes Estimator Table on our bin sizes page

Here you will see the entire length, width and height of each bin. This will give you a good idea of how much space your bin will take and whether your spot offers the room.

When selecting the right location for your bin, you should also give yourself additional room on top of the measurements for walking space.

While the area may fit the skip, does it provide you with allowance space to put objects in and have a clear pathway to get around? Keep this in mind when measuring the area.
